Verdant Brewing Co is set to release a tenth anniversary cask edition of extra pale ale Lightbulb, one of the team’s first brews and a constant bestseller.

Verdant Lightbulb 10

The 4.5% ABV beer is being released on cask this week, for the first time, to celebrate a decade since the founding of Verdant. The pumpclip boasts a re-imagined design of the classic label, created by Eathan Atkion, a student at Falmouth University

“Lightbulb is now an unchanged recipe for ten years — unchanged!” said Verdant head brewer, James Heffron. “To celebrate this amazing staple of the Verdant stable, we are providing the exact same beer in cask dispense format.

“Expect a totally different drinking experience, where the lemon sherbet character of Lightbulb rides atop an incredibly fluffy and smooth drinking experience far more akin to the softest of the soft New England pale ales, with a rocky white head to match!”

For the third year running, Verdant teamed up with Falmouth University’s Graphic Design undergraduate course, this year providing a brief for students to re-imagine the artwork of some of its most well-known, iconic beer labels.

Displaying ten rings of light, signifying ten years since the brewery was founded, the design will be used for the special cask-only edition of Lightbulb and showcased on pumpclips across the country.

Eathan Aktion said: “Since becoming interested in design, I’d always been interested in packaging and I actually used to work next to Verdant’s taproom as well, so I was aware of them, their beers, and designs already.

“I was excited to have the opportunity to re-imagine their classic labels and liked the idea of our creative being put on real cans for our end of year show.”

The partnership between Verdant and the university is close to the business’s heart, with two senior members of the team, Jim Wright and Adam Robertson — one of the businesses founders — having studied on the same graphic design course more than 25 years ago.

Cask Lightbulb will be available in 350 venues around the UK. It is one of several ways the brewer will be celebrating turning ten, with special beer drops in the months to come and a tenth anniversary branded pint glass now available to buy in Verdant’s online shop.
